Tango at the South Bank, trilby at Covent Garden

Saturday afternoon, still cool and windy, but at least no rain. Into town on the bike, just the perfect way to travel and there's free parking. The South Bank foyer was fairly deserted when we arrived with only a few couples waiting to dance. You can always tell the dancers - particularly the women. They have the shoes and often the legs to go with it. Some daring slits up to the thigh and a few with black mesh stockings. Fabulous live music and a long stretch of beautiful wooden flooring. Bob was really on form today and we just glided around the floor in perfect harmony. An hour and a half is plenty and then we were off to Covent Garden to buy Bob's hat. We saw the hat last week when we were at the VE day celebrations in town. It was in a retro shop and it suited Bob down to a tea. We wanted to take it home but then sadly discovered that neither of us had enough money. Fortunately the hat was still there today. Bob has a really big head (size 60)and so it can be hard to find one that will fit him!

Bob and Jake look so similar don't they?

Jazz in the park. Where's the jazz you might ask? Well it was there and we did have a bit of a dance but once the sun had gone down it became rather too cold for sitting around. Jake had the right idea - he went off to kick a ball around and found a group playing cricket. Then we set off back home for dinner.Posted by Hello

A busy week for Ep and Bob

We had tickets to see a French dance company at the Peacock Theatre on Tuesday night. We met up with Sue and Norman and enjoyed an unusual night of contemporary hip-hop/street dance. It finished quite early so on the way home we called in at the Kings Head in Islington to listen to the live music. The group was called Joshua Blue and they were good - we all had a dance. Then on Thursday we were out with Jake as you can see. On Friday we had invited Jackie and Eileen to come over for a bite to eat before going to the Hackney Empire to see 'Sun Dance'. The Theatre is worth a visit as it has recently been returned to it's former splendour. The spectacle of 26 black dancers with good effects and sets made quite an impact. The singing was disappointing though.

Roderick's Birthday!

Monday evening. I've got some kind of a mild virus. Monday is Ep's day off. We went to Sainsbury's. I stayed at home while Ep went to the Muswell Hill Garden Centre. She came back with a grow bag, some sweet pea plants, some alyssum/lobelia and, what is it? rabbit's ear? Ep made a stir fry with tofu. Roderick made cous cous, Tom made some kind of chilli-chicken. It's always like this on Mondays. We had a couple of bottles of wine for Rod's birthday. I watched the beginning of Lord of the Rings with Roderick. He's off to bed, having started at 5.30 this morning from Wantage.
This afternoon Ep and me watched "Last Orders", which I recorded from last night. We were amazed how good it was. I had read the book but wasn't expecting the star-studded cast to be half so good. I expected one of those feel-good "English humour" movies full of nostalgia and "the english film industry is not dead" kind of patriotism. Not a bit; it was true like Mike Leigh, and not obvious.
I'm recording a couple of Iranian films tonight from Channel 4 by Kiarostami.
I'm going to have a lemsip! and off to bed.
