Joyce and John's Fiftieth

Fifty years ago, July 1955, they were married at Eye Parish Church. John told us how in those days they didn't have cars. The bus he had booked to take them to the reception in Peterborough didn't turn up, so they had to catch the bus at the stop.
Kevin's speech was simple and very moving, I think most of us felt a lump in our throats. It was a special afternoon for me. I hadn't met any of the grandchildren before and so much appreciated being accepted in this company of family and friends.
I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

They came from Lisbon

They've been staying at Selma's. They drove up on Friday. Today we went to the park and went on the round-abouts and swings. Later on we played hide and seek and tennis. It was very hot.

Jill Patterson's christening

What a lovely surprise to receive this old family photograph. It is not one that I have ever seen before. If it wasn't for the clothes that I am wearing I would not have guessed that it was me holding the baby! I am so pleased to have a picture that includes my Mum and Dad, my Grandma and Grandad, my Dad's brother, Uncle Jim, Auntie Ann, my sister and young brother and baby Jill. Thanks goes to my cousin Jill who I have only recently been in touch with.

Jake shows us round Brussels

Bob and I drove to Brussels on Friday on the Eurotunnel to Calais and then the motorway to Brussels. It was so easy. We had plenty of time and so called in at Brugges - what a lovely town. We found our way to Jake's flat and then spent the evening in town wandering around and having a great Turkish meal. On the Saturday we had a practice run-through at fitting Jake's stuff into the car. It was better than expected. We went out for a late breakfast and then explored the city. Driving back on Saturday, early evening, took less time than expected and so we were able to get on an earlier crossing. All in all a successful trip.
